Although our survival instincts are undoubtedly both impressive and necessary, they evolved primarily as a response to immediate physical threats. This 'fight/flight/freeze' reaction is less effective when faced with our modern day-to-day challenges. Instead of helping, this survival mechanism can cause us to become trapped in a self-perpetuating cycle of stress, anxiety and depression.
When we are in 'survival mode' the part of the brain responsible for our inner resourcefulness and resilience becomes less active and our perception can become distorted, making things seem scary, overwhelming or hopeless. Unable to see things clearly, and cut off from our innate problem solving skills, it can be difficult to get back in control.
Over time, a prolonged stress response can inhibit the production of feel-good neurotransmitters and disrupt restorative sleep; making us feel even worse. Stuck in this negative feedback loop, we may experience emotional lows and can develop obsessive thought patterns or learn to rely on unhelpful habits or behaviours.
We may find ourselves in this vicious circle following trauma, chronic stress, grief, or seemingly out of the blue - but it can quickly become a problem of its own. Many of us instinctively focus on what's gone wrong, or become preoccupied with our negative thoughts and feelings. However, research shows that focusing on the problem may only serve to strengthen negative neural pathways. Instead, shifting our focus to the positive enables us to leverage the power of neuroplasticity to create sustainable, lasting change.
Solution focused hypnotherapy integrates psychotherapy, neuroscientific education, CBT, NLP, SFBT and clinical hypnosis to help you rewire your brain and rewrite a more positive future. Led by someone who understands the challenges firsthand, you'll find enthusiastic support alongside evidence-based interventions.
Sessions are not only enjoyable and proactive but also highly effective. A preliminary study indicated that 100% of participants who completed therapy responded to treatment, with 78% experiencing complete recovery (i.e. no clinical symptoms) after just 8-12 sessions on average. [source]
I am a Solution Focused Psychotherapist and Clinical Hypnotherapist. I studied with the prestigious Clifton Practice and I'm fully insured, DBS checked and registered with the AfSFH.
Following my own (often frustrating and unproductive) attempts at healing, I became passionate about empowering people with the tools they need to successfully break free from negative cycles, so that they can stop wasting time and start truly living.
I offer a free no obligation initial consultation via Zoom.
During the consultation we will discuss what it is you're struggling with and what you're looking to achieve through therapy. I will then explain, in easy to understand terms, the neuroscience behind why you feel the way that you do and what we can do to help.
Many clients find that understanding the underlying mechanisms behind the issues they're experiencing, and learning how they can regain control, is a clear turning point in their healing journey.
Sessions are carried out online. These can be completed on a pay-as-you-go basis or purchased in blocks at a discounted rate.
Sessions are structured, consisting of psychotherapy (talking therapy) and hypnotherapy (trance). The psychotherapy element is geared towards accessing and exploring your inner resources, enabling you to move forward in your chosen direction. This is followed by hypnosis (similar to guided meditation), which serves to consolidate the work we've done during the session, speed up your processing of stress, and promote healthier ways of thinking and behaving.
